Gelsolin (GSN) is an actin binding protein that regulates actin-severing/depolymerizing in a calcium dependent manner, and acts as a multifunctional regulator for cell metabolism and survival. Gelsolin exists in two isoforms: a cytoplasmic gelsolin (cGSN) and a plasma gelsolin (pGSN), which is secreted into blood. Gelsolin can promote or inhibit tumorigenesis, and its expression level and function are associated with many cancers, including urothelial carcinoma, oral carcinoma, lung cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer.
